ARTURO ART STUDIO AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
Proper aftercare is essential to ensuring your tattoo heals cleanly, vibrantly, and without infection. Please follow these instructions carefully.
BANDAGE REMOVAL & FIRST WASH
The bandage comes off after 4–5 hours.
Immediately take a SHORT shower after removing the bandage to wash the tattoo thoroughly. Use clean hands and a mild unscented soap (like Ivory or Dove) to remove all ointment and plasma until the surface is no longer shiny or slippery.
KEEP SHOWERS SHORT
For the approximately two weeks that your tattoo takes to heal, keep all showers SHORT (under 5 minutes).
Minimize direct high-pressure water contact onto the fresh tattoo. If you have long hair, wash your hair outside of the shower while leaning over so soapy runoff does not soak into your fresh tattoo. Prolonged exposure to moisture will cause your tattoo to scab heavily!
Rule of thumb: Do not wash with soap every single day unless it actually got dirty. Rinsing gently is usually plenty.
LET THE TATTOO DRY OUT (DAYS 1–2)
Let the tattoo dry out for the first 2 to 3 days. Do NOT apply any moisturizer at this point.
Allowing the surface to dry initiates the natural scabbing and epidermal barrier formation. If the tattoo is still weeping plasma during the first 24–48 hours, gently dab it off with a clean, moist paper towel or washcloth.
MOISTURIZE LIGHTLY (STARTING DAY 3)
Starting on Day 3, apply a SMALL amount of Webber Vitamin E Cream (available in the first-aid section of Shoppers Drug Mart or most pharmacies in a red & white tube, 12,500 IU).
It comes out thick, so you may add a tiny drop of clean water to dilute it for easier application. Alternatively, use fragrance-free Wellskin Glaxal Base, Aveeno, or Glysomed.
Apply with CLEAN hands 1 to 2 times daily (morning and evening). Rub thoroughly into the skin. Using too much lotion is counterproductive and will suffocate healing skin. Take a "less is more" approach.
WHAT TO STRICTLY AVOID WHILE HEALING
Until your tattoo has completely peeled and healed (typically 2 to 3 weeks), NEVER EXPOSE IT TO BACTERIA CESSPOOLS:
- NO baths, hot tubs, saunas, swimming pools, lakes, rivers, or ponds.
- NO tanning beds or direct sunbathing.
- NO dirty gym equipment or contact sports that cause heavy sweating.
- Keep pets away from the tattooed area and change your bed sheets.
LONG-TERM TATTOO CARE
To keep your tattoo looking crisp and vibrant forever, continue moisturizing it after showering with Wellskin Glaxal Base. When out in the sun, always apply a high-SPF sunscreen rated for babies (SPF 50+). The fewer layers of skin lost to sunburn, the longer your tattoo will look brand new.
